Experience: Jim Otteson is the founder of Agility IP Law, a law firm dedicated to the delivery of the highest quality intellectual property litigation services in an efficient and cost-effective manner.  He has been engaged in intellectual property litigation for over 17 years, including patent, copyright, trade secret and trademark cases in state and federal courts, as well as in the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).  Prior to founding Agility IP Law in January 2010, Jim was the Head of ITC Litigation at the Silicon Valley law firm of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he practiced starting in August 1992.  He also served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Byron J. Johnson of the Idaho Supreme Court (1991-92).

Jim has particular expertise in the litigation and trial of complex patent cases, especially in the ITC. He has successfully tried multiple ITC cases for both respondents (accused infringers) and complainants (patent holders), and has successfully litigated scores of other patent and intellectual property cases.  He has also successfully briefed and argued multiple appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Jim has litigated cases involving many technologies, including semiconductors, semiconductor packaging, computer systems and hardware, consumer electronics, software, Internet and e-commerce, biomedical devices, mechanical devices, chemical products, nutritional supplements and footwear.  Jim is an expert at distilling complex technical issues and making them understandable and compelling to judges and juries in the context of motions, Markman hearings, summary judgment and trial.
